PHISHING
Over the past the year there has been new crime that has been increasing significantly called “Phishing”. Phishing is a term used for criminals’ attempts at stealing personal financial information through fraudulent e-mails and Websites designed to appear as though they were generated from legitimate businesses, financial institutions, and government agencies. These scams are contributing to a rise in identity theft, and debit/credit card and other Internet-based frauds.
The email appears to be totally legitimate that requests personal/private information from you or requests that you select a link and enter the information on a website that pops up. These false Emails and web sites look and appear all most exactly like you institutions. They generally state something like “Update your Records” , “Your card has been compromised” , “Your order can not be Completed”. Do NOT respond to these emails. Do NOT click on any of the links.
BBCU will not ask you for personal/private information, update card or account information via email.
If you feel that one of your Birmingham Bloomfield Credit Union cards have been compromised please contact us immediately at (248) 647-5958.
If the e-mail stated that it was specifically from Birmingham Bloomfield Credit Union, please forward the email to info@bbcu.org
