DIRECT DEPOSIT FAQ'S

WHAT IS DIRECT DEPOSIT?
Direct deposit is the process of automatically transferring your pay via a electronic payment system called Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network into your account(s) at your financial institution. Also, the ACH Network is used by the Federal Government to distribute Social Security payments to beneficiaries that are on the Direct Deposit Program. Direct Deposit is a proven method of payment that eliminates the need for paper payroll checks.

HOW DOES DIRECT DEPOSIT WORK?
First, you authorize your employer to establish Direct Deposit of payroll. As payday nears, the employer electronically forwards information regarding your earning's to its primary financial institution, through the Automated Clearing House (ACH). The ACH then forwards the payment data to the your financial institution. The amount of the pay is automatically deposited into the employee's account(s) on payday.

HOW DO YOU KEEP FINANCIAL RECORDS FOR YOUR EARNINGS?
On payday, the you will receive a pay stub that lists gross pay, deductions, net pay, etc. The pay stub serves as notice of deposit. Also, the amount of Direct Deposit will appear on your statement from Birmingham Bloomfield Credit Union.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR DIRECT DEPOSIT TO BEGIN AFTER FORMS ARE SUBMITTED TO THE PAYROLL DEPARTMENT?
The initial start-up program will require you to complete the necessary forms and return them to your payroll department, you should contact your employer's payroll department for more specific time frames.

DOES BIRMINGHAM BLOOMFIELD CREDIT UNION PARTICIPATE IN DIRECT DEPOSIT?
Yes. We are a member of the ACH Network and can accept any members Direct Deposit of payroll and Social Security payments.

WHAT BIRMINGHAM BLOOMFIELD CREDIT UNION ACCOUNT NUMBER DO I NEED TO GIVE TO MY EMPLOYER?

  • You need only provide your employer with your account number followed by the number 1 at the end of it.
  • Indicate whether you want it to go to checking or savings.

DEBIT CARD
It works like a check, except there’s no check to write. Simply present your card, sign the sales slip, and go! There are no hassles or interest to pay. Your purchase is automatically deducted from your credit union checking account.

You can also use it as an ATM Card to transfer funds between accounts, verify account balances and withdrawal cash from more locations worldwide than an ordinary ATM Card. It’s accepted wherever you see a Mastercard symbol.
